This study assesses the role of religion in influencing sexual frequency and satisfaction among older married adults and sexual activity among older unmarried adults. We propose and test several hypotheses about the relationship between religion and sex among these two groups of older Americans, using nationally representative data from the National Social Life, Health, and Aging Project NSHAP. Results suggest that among married older adults, religion is largely unrelated with sexual frequency and satisfaction, although religious integration in daily life shares a weak but positive association with pleasure from sex. For unmarried adults, such religious integration exhibits a negative association with having had sex in the last year among women but not men. Despite longstanding stereotypes to the contrary, sexual interest remains alive among older adults. In data from the National Social Life, Health, and Aging Project NSHAP , only one in four 75—year-old men report a complete lack of interest in sex, and only about half of 75—year-old women say the same Lindau et al.

The Sex and Religion Project is the result of 2 years of intense study at PSR dedicated to understanding the rich history of Christianity from its roots in the Near East to its present around the world. Over this period Steven focused on multi-cultural outlooks on sexuality, world religions, Christian tradition and rites, social justice reform, queer theory, and sexual education. It can be difficult to find guidance from pastors and priests who have hard stances on what they understand to be biblical sins, however the Bible is open for interpretation and your personal faith and relationship with God is what drives participation in the community of Christianity. Having a deeper understanding of biblical context and human sciences can help Christians to embrace their faith more strongly or help them to reimagine their understanding of what they learned in Sunday School. Look here at over 50 years of biblical scholarship, condensed and cited as an easy introduction to Queer Theology and affirming faith. These introductory guides look to the heart of issues on Faith, Religion and Sex, and point to deeper scholarship for those who wish to continue their study. Not everyone is blessed with the time, energy or capital to attend seminary, but everyone is gifted with the chance to reflect on their faith and to challenge themselves to find their own answers. It is our hope to provide that challenge through the furthering of resources to those who need it most. Please read these works, download and share them. They are resources to the faithful and a starting point for future scholars, activists, theologians and lay people like you.
The views of religions and religious believers range widely, from giving sex and sexuality a rather negative connotation to believing that sex is the highest expression of the divine. Some religions distinguish between sexual activities that are practised for biological reproduction sometimes allowed only when in formal marital status and at a certain age and those practised only for sexual pleasure in evaluating relative morality. Sexual morality has varied greatly over time and between cultures. A society's sexual norms —standards of sexual conduct—can be linked to religious beliefs, or social and environmental conditions, or all of these.
